Saturday 5th to Sunday 27th September
REFLECTIONS ON WATER, MISTY SKIES AND LIGHT-DAPPLED FOLIAGE
Feature artist Sally James creates vibrant reduction linocut artworks that attempt to capture
the ephemeral, light essence of vast spaces of air and moving bodies of water.
She works with oil-based inks, building up layers of transparent and semi-transparent colour
to create the effect of warm, glowing light. She also sometimes combines
linocut and mono printing techniques to create free-flowing soft edges and textures,
manipulating the oil inks with hand, cloth and brush.
Sally's art often depicts the wild landscapes of Tasmania
but she also frequently draws inspiration from areas within and
alongside the suburban areas of everyday life.
