Waiting For Light

"My exhibition has formed after spending time at Woolmers Estate near Longford in Northern Tasmania. I was first attracted by the landscape and the history of the Archer family but after a time I found that the light was what spoke to me most. I understood that it was more productive to sleep with a lazy eye on the window waiting for the light to invite the possibility of a painting and then entering the landscape at the right time.
There will be 12 paintings all 82 x 122cm. I call them Tone Poems - but each will have its own title. Simple paintings with low saturation - dusk and dawn. It is interesting that Thomas Archer built an upstairs suite for Sir John and Lady Franklin to have accommodation at Woolmers. I don’t think it was ever used by them but their legacy on the estate exists and having now lived at Government House for the past 10 years I feel the Franklins’ legacy as well."
