The Tasmanian Art Group
The inaugural meeting of The Tasmanian Art Group (TAG) took place in 1970, with a constitution prepared and adopted. The group evolved from the Adult Education class conducted by the former Keeper of the Tasmanian Art Gallery, Mr Vernon Hodgman. The concept was for artists to meet together for lectures, demonstrations and critiques and to discuss problems and difficulties that beset all artists from time to time. The group aims to maintain and improve the standard of work exhibited and it was decided that membership should be by invitation only. The group has grown since those early days but the number is still limited to 25 artists, mostly amateurs painting for their own pleasure and the satisfaction of producing paintings worth exhibiting. The Tasmanian Art Group is a compatible and dedicated collection of artists working together to encourage one another.
